For a very long period, there has been sport. It has aided civilizations in maintaining
physical fitness while also boosting morale and community cohesion. Sport is
essential in many facets of life, from fostering happiness and health to reshaping
society and education. Sports that serve as a bridge and motivate young athletes to
support healthy competition will benefit both individuals and communities.
Every year on August 29th, National Sports Day is observed to commemorate the
birthdate of hockey star Major Dhyan Chand, who won gold medals for India in the
Olympics in 1928, 1932, and 1936. The primary goal of National Sports Day
celebrations is to increase public awareness of the value of sports and everyday
activities in everyone's lives.
About Major Dhyan Chand
In the Uttar Pradesh district of Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj), Major Dhyan
Chandra was born on August 29, 1905. It was a lucky day when a young hockey
player from India, who has shone a spotlight on both himself and India in the sport of
hockey, was introduced to the world. He took charge of the Indian hockey team in
1926 and continued to bring honour to his country by winning three Olympic gold
medals.
In order to reach his pinnacles of glory, he often represented his nation in the arena
of international hockey. He is an iconic figure in both Indian and international hockey.
The largest Dhyan Chand Trophy, which is presented on his birthday, is India's
highest honour for lifetime accomplishment in sports and games. The hockey game
of Major Dhyan Chand's tutor Pankaj Gupta was known to him.
